Skidder Application
Some ground will not take a light rig, and some stems will not answer to a light treatment. That is what a skidder is for.
Cutover with heavy residual stems, ground broken up by stumps and slash, slopes and soft spots — a four-wheeler will not cross it and a farm sprayer will not survive it. A skidder-mounted rig will.
The weight and clearance let the application go where it needs to go, and let it stay in the target long enough to matter on stems that shrug off a lighter pass.
It is not the cheapest way to treat an acre, so it should be recommended only where it is the right way. Whether your tract is that place is a decision made standing on it.
What we look at on the tract
- Stem size, density and species — what is actually being asked of the treatment
- Ground condition, slope, and the stumps and slash that decide the route
- Soft ground and drains, and what the tract will carry that time of year
- Any residual stand or planted stems that must come through it undamaged
- Access for getting the machine on and off the property
- Whether an aerial pass or a lighter ground rig would do the same job for less
How the work runs
The recommendation comes with the alternative it was chosen over, so you can see why the heavier machine is being put on your tract. Pricing is firm and in writing before the work is scheduled.
Herbicides are mixed on site. The route, the boundaries and anything being left alone are agreed on the ground first, and someone accountable stays with the work while it runs.
