Site Preparation
These treatments prepare a site (tract of land) to be planted the following year, by eliminating the other plant competition.
Eliminating that competition allows the “soon to be planted” trees to have complete access to all the available water and nutrients.
These treatments are the most effective and economical way to establish a new plantation, because most all of the competition can be eliminated before the new plantation is established. The herbaceous treatment can be added to reduce the cost of two separate treatments.
What we look at on the tract
- What is standing there now — hardwood species, brush, vines, and the residual stems left after harvest
- Stem density and height, and whether the canopy will actually intercept an aerial application
- Access and staging — where a mixing site can sit and how product reaches it
- Water on and beside the tract: creeks, drains, ponds and streamside buffers
- What sits downwind — neighboring crops, gardens, orchards, pasture, right-of-ways
- Your planting date, so the treatment window and the planting window do not collide
How the work runs
Once the prescription and the price are agreed, the application is scheduled against the window the site allows. Aircraft and crews are coordinated through established relationships with proven aerial applicators, so the right equipment is matched to the tract instead of the tract being fitted to whatever is free that week.
Herbicides are mixed on site. Treatment boundaries and buffers are confirmed on the ground before the first load goes out, and someone accountable stays on site while the work runs — to watch conditions, keep the application inside the lines, and answer questions as they come.

Products, equipment and crews are lined up for the window we agreed on, and herbicides are mixed on site.
