Herbaceous Weed Control

These treatments address the herbaceous (weeds, grasses, and vines) component on the site.

This treatment will not only eliminate the herbaceous component but will also keep the site clean for several months by preventing many grass and weed species’ seeds from germinating.

These treatments can be done in the spring to reduce herbaceous competition to newly planted trees, or added to a late summer, early fall site preparation treatment prior to planting trees.

By eliminating or reducing the herbaceous competition to the newly planted trees, their survival and growth are significantly improved. This is a critical treatment because it gives the newly planted trees better access to the available moisture and nutrients at a time they are becoming established.

What we look at on the tract

  • Which weeds are actually present, and whether they are grasses, broadleaf or both
  • Age and condition of the planted stems, and how much height they have on the competition
  • Soil moisture and how exposed the site is if the season turns dry
  • Whether a banded ground application covers what needs covering for less product than a broadcast
  • Row spacing, row visibility and ground firmness if the work goes in from the ground
  • Buffers, water and anything sensitive on the boundary

How the work runs

The prescription names the products, the rates and the window, and the price is fixed in writing before the work is scheduled. Nothing is ordered on your behalf until you have said yes to both.

Herbicides are mixed on site. Treated areas are confirmed before the application starts, and someone accountable is there while it runs — a young stand is the last place to find out afterwards that the rate or the coverage was not what was agreed.

Four stages, one accountable party.

  1. 01

    Assess

We walk the tract and record what is actually growing there — species, conditions, access and the timing the site allows.

  2. 02

    Prescribe

You get treatment options with the tradeoffs explained, and firm pricing in writing before anything is committed.

  3. 03

    Prepare

Products, equipment and crews are lined up for the window we agreed on, and herbicides are mixed on site.

  4. 04

    Supervise

Someone accountable is on site while the work runs, confirming treatment areas and answering questions as conditions change.
